Booked 6 months ago. Well worth the wait. Clean and tidy.
This is the fifth time we have stayed at the Poplars over the last 20 years. This is a nicely renovated, clean looking and spacious unit which has been tastefully decorated. Furniture and bedding are getting a bit old though. The blue lounge shown in the photo has been replaced with a brown lounge and seems to be the source of the musty odour whenever you come into the unit. Previously owned by a smoker? My daughter complained that in the 2nd bedroom her bed squeaked every time she moved. Kitchen could have had a few more items but overall a pleasant unit to stay in.
We were on the whole happy with the unit & definitely the location. We went in Winter and the unit did get very cold at night, and there was no heating. It was a great location for the kids. We would recommend the real estate notifying people of the height restrictions with the parking, as we took our 4WD & could not fit under the pipe in the allocated parking positions. Luckily someone else was away & we were able to use their spot.
Some imperfections, overall very good.HappyWanderer
If your first priority is a magnificent view, then choose number 16 (my son and family were in that one). Number 13 is ground floor, with a much nicer layout than 16. We spent the majority of our time in it. It's better for kids, as you don't have to worry about the balcony, and there is a large grassed area immediately outside where they can play as you sip on your wine. It's a short stroll down the Walk to the Cruise terminal, the Marina, and Fly Point. A very nice walk is from Fly Point to Little Beach. The unit was well equipped (hint: hire linen if your budget is up to it, it's so much easier) and comfortable. I thought the big brown lounge was great. The bunk does squeak which can be irritating. Bed was comfortable, bedrooms a very generous size. In fact, the whole apartment is spacious compared to others I have stayed in. My son has decided that, next time, he will book 13, and I can book 16!!!! One thing I did have to do on arrival was wash the tiled floors. Perhaps the rental office could make a habit of having floors washed the day before arrival, if the property hasn't been occupied for a few weeks, as dust and grit inevitably comes in. Overall, if you were looking at one of the cheaper options (eg Highpoint where I've stayed before) pay the extra for the comfort. But you should be aware that it isn't airconditioned, which 16 is.
The location was lovely, quiet and clean. The only downfall was it has no air conditioning, the nights were to hot we couldn't sleep. The kids room has no ceiling fan so we had to go and buy a fan as my little girl could not sleep because of the heat. Excluding the heat it was beautiful.
The unit is clean and in a good position and walking distance to the marine area and shops . The lounge in the picture is not the actual one . The true lounge is large , brown and extremely uncomfortable to sit on . The bed is not very comfortable either . The kitchen is well fitted out and has all you need to make a meal . No fan in 2nd bedroom , the unit would benefit from air conditioning for summer
The positives were it was close to town, good spot near the pool. The negatives, the shower head was broken, the room with the bunks had a light from outside shining in it so it was lit up like daylight at night until around 3am. The bunk was really squeaky, the mattress and what was left of the mattress protector were disgusting. At night we had bugs (cockroaches and crickets) crawling all over us and our beds. One roll of toilet paper was supplied, not sure we were supposed to take our own, but we had to do a special trip to get some as our search for some in the unit came up empty. It was a nice looking unit as such, but failed to feel nice, due to the icky factors mentioned above.
Good but a little disappointingKate
The unit was convenient to town but unfortunately was not very clean. The floor was dirty, the mattress protectors were very dirty, the bunk bed on the bottom was very squeaky and there were cockroaches in the kitchen.I tried to use the dryer on our final night but it was very noisy and was unable to use it. I would stay at the Poplars again but not unit 13 as it was next to the rubbish and extremely rancid at times. The young man at the counter when we left was also quite rude. I will give O'Meara property one more go and then will consider going elsewhere.
